Last night I got my answer as to why I couldn't find the smoked split bamboo baskets in any of the out-lying craft villages. They are actually a Lahu hill tribe craft, so come in from the mountains. Lahu language is of Tibeto-Burman origin, so Yutthana, my supplier, speaks three languages that are totally unrelated to one another.
